FIRST (Firearm Instruction, Responsibility, and Safety Training)
Firearm orientation program for new purchasers
This course provides a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and orientation for one
specific firearm model. Students will also take away a thorough introduction to firearm safety,
handling, and shooting skills.
Course run time: Approximately 1/2 day, depending upon the number of students attending
the class. Approximately one hour of range time is included in the course.
Format: The format of this course is total participant involvement. This means that lecture
time is minimized and "learning by doing" is stressed.
Prerequisites: None. This course is intended to serve the needs of novice shooters who
have purchased or been given a firearm that is new to them.
Course content: This course includes instruction in the areas listed below.
- Introduction to pistol safety, parts, and operation
- Introduction to ammunition and the fundamentals of pistol shooting
- Introduction to pistol shooting from the benchrest position
- Introduction to pistol cleaning, storage, and training opportunities
Live ammunition is never allowed in classrooms.
